FERRARA BUSKERS FESTIVAL 2018: A KALEIDOSCOPE OF SONGS
Events | Music | Ferrara
A riot of sounds and rhythm and instruments and musicians is going to invade Ferrara’s historical streets from 17th to 26th August, with the 31st edition of the International Festival of Street Musician
If you take a better look at the horizon of Ferrara, a beautiful city not far from Bologna, and you sharpen your hearing, you can glimpse a colourful and vibrant army of joyful artists and you can perceive curious melodies you’ve never heard before: it’s the musical echo of the Ferrara Buskers Festival 2018.
What is the Ferrara Buskers Festival?
Music, first of all. Experimental melodies, unusual sounds, traditional riffs, funny instruments, original songs, new artistic performances: Buskers Festival is the most ancient festival in Europe and the biggest in the world that celebrates the figure of the Street Musician, ancestral entertainer of the city crowds who sings and plays about feelings, thoughts, art and life.
This ten-days festival, from 17th until 26th August, will be a musical journey across different countries, where every note embodies the thousands emotions of each culture and every song tells life stills.
Who are the participants?
The buskers who will animate the historical centre of the Este city and the itinerant stages foreseen for the On Tour Festival - like the towns of Comacchio and Lugo - come from all over the world. 20 invited bands will be the absolute protagonists, while hundreds of fringe credited artists will accompany them, populating the dense program of the festival: more than 100 shows everyday, plus collateral events and initiatives about music, but not only. All the shows are free and open, as in the philosophy of the street performers.

The Guest City 2018
Ferrara Buskers Festival dedicates each edition of every year to one Guest City, which embodies the important role of representative city to continue valorizing the street culture.
New York has been the Guest City of the 2017 edition, that has matched with the 30th anniversary of the event: not a casual decision, because the Big Apple has inspired the first steps during the birth of the Ferrara Buskers Festival.
This year, for the 31st edition, it’s the turn of Dublin: the Irish capital will color the ten days with its dynamic and vital personality; an official twinning between the lively Temple Bar Quartier and Piazza Trento e Trieste will sanction the deep connection between Ferrara and Dublin.
Ten days to feel immersed into a unique, international and joyful atmosphere, rich of creativity and inspirations. Will you take part? Find more info on the official website. Don’t miss the opportunity to discover a little gem of Italian culture and history: Ferrara, a recognized UNESCO World Heritage of Humanity, can be easily explored in one day, and - you’ll see it with your eyes - it’s absolutely worth it.
